Name Prefixes and SuffixesFor more information on names in Warrior Cats and how they are chosen please see the Cat Names page. If you are looking for a Warrior Cats name to use for a username, roleplay, fanfiction or another purpose, try out the Warriors Cats Name Generator page. The cats of the Clans all have their own name which may or may not have its own special meaning, from something simple such as the colour of their pelt, or something more meaningful such as being named after another cat, the names can vary from silly to fascinating. The general format of the names of the cats is usually the same. Each name has both a prefix and a suffix which together make up their name. Although there are some exceptions to this. This page will only list prefixes and suffixes used in the books. There are many other names that could be used, and likely will be used in future books, but this pages simply lists names that have been used previously in the books. Special Thanks to Squirrelpaw from the Warriors Wish forums who compiled this list of canon names, see the original page here: Warriors Wish forum. PrefixesThe prefix of a name is the most important part of a Clan cat's name, as it is the part that they will keep throughout their life (unless in the rare occurrence it changes, read Cat Names for more information). This name is usually given to a cat at birth by their parents. It will often may have some sort of meaning, whether that be being named after something important or just after the cats pelt colour. Or in some cases may just be whatever name the parents choose with no special meaning at all.Thunder, River, Wind, Shadow and Sky have been used on certain occasions, however they are supposed to be unique to the original Clan Leaders who used them as their names before the addition of the 'star' suffix was later added to Clan Leader's names. Below is a list of prefixes that have been used in the Warrior Cats series. Words with a * next to them are under multiple categories. Other SuffixesOnce an Apprentice becomes a Warrior or a full Medicine Cat, they are given their new Warrior or Medicine Cat name. Unlike the other ranks in the Clan, these names do not have a generic suffix, but rather get a new suffix chosen by either the Clan Leader if a Warrior, or their mentor if a Medicine Cat.Similar to the prefixes, the suffix may have some meaning to it, such as if a cat has shown bravery, a common example would be to give them the suffix 'heart'. However in most cases the chosen suffix will be somewhat random and chosen to match the prefix they were given at birth (read Cat Names for more information)) Below is a list of suffixes that have been used in the Warrior Cats series.
